Re-installation Instructions:
To install CheckWriter™ on a new
computer and maintain your current customer database, you
must back up your database.
Exporting data will not fully maintain your database as a
back up and would require you import and manually map each field
to recover your data. To back up your existing database,
go to the machine where CheckWriter™ is currently installed and
look in:
c:\Program
Files\CheckWriter6
Here you will find cw50.mdb. If long file names are
turned off on your computer's preferences, you may see the file
as "cw50". This is your database file. Be sure
your CheckWriter software is closed, then right click on the
cw50.mdb file and select copy.
Next paste this database file to
a safe location such as a floppy disk, CD ROM, tape drive or
other back up source that can be read by the new computer where
you wish to re-install CheckWriter. If your file is less
than 1.4 MB, you can right click and select "Send to
3.5" Floppy," to perform the back up.
Be sure to select paste
and verify the two file sizes are identical by right clicking
each one and selecting properties. This will display the
file size. One common error is to paste or drag a shortcut,
rather than the actual document.
Once you are positive
you have backed up your database successfully, follow these
installation directions:
Insert Your CheckWriter CD Into
Your CD ROM Drive. The AutoRun Feature should begin the
installation process automatically.
If installation does not begin automatically, go to the My
Computer Icon on your Desktop and click on the CheckWriter
Icon above the picture of your CD ROM Drive.
Next, follow the
on-screen instructions until installation is complete. Do not
select the option to allow your computer to restart when you are
prompted, say NO and manually restart your machine when the
installation is fully completed.
YOU MUST REBOOT
YOUR COMPUTER MANUALLY FROM THE START MENU BEFORE USING CHECKWRITER.

CheckWriter
will now have a blank database. Close the CheckWriter
software and get your copy of the database you backed up and
return to c:\Program
Files\CheckWriter6 on the new computer. Right click on
the copy of the cw50.mdb database you backed up and select
copy. Then paste the database into
c:\Program
Files\CheckWriter6. You will be asked if you want to
replace the existing copy, and you should select
yes. Lastly, right click the new database and select
properties and be sure that "Read-Only" in UNCHECKED.
You can now open
CheckWriter and view your previous entries on your new machine.
